Downriver Parents Jump for Joy as Baby is Born!

WYANDOTTE, MI. – February 21, 2006 –They waited patiently for years, first to get married and second, to have a baby. As the due date approached, everything was fine, and then came the baby shower. “My mom and I were driving to my baby shower when we were hit by another car,” recalls Nikki Kamin. “We were pretty scared. The officer asked me if I wanted to go to the hospital and I said first, I want to go to my baby shower and then I’ll go to the hospital. So that’s what I did and when I got there, I had to stay for a few days. Soon after that, Sarah was born and she was fine. We are so thankful that nothing happened during that scary time.

James and Nikki Kamin became the proud parents of baby Sarah Marie last July and she’s been a joy ever since. “I really wasn’t too nervous about becoming a father, I was more excited than anything,” said James. “I do have experience with girls. I was adopted when I was two years old and had 6 sisters!!!!!! So, I know a thing or two about girls!” James says with a big smile.

Before Sarah was born, James and Nikki attended parenting classes so they could learn everything they needed before the baby was born. “The thing I remember the most was they taught us how to handle Sarah if we were both tired and frustrated and what things we should do to make sure we comfort her and keep her safe,” said Nikki. But they really haven’t had to worry too much about that; so far, baby Sarah is an angel and smiles and laughs all the time.

The couple who were married in Illinois and moved to Michigan to be closer to family have a lot of help if they need it. Nikki’s parents live right around the corner from their Wyandotte apartment and are available for babysitting when the couple wants to go out for awhile.

Currently James is looking for employment. “I wanted to stay here with Nikki for awhile while we got used to Sarah’s schedule. I am looking for a job where I can help others,” said James. “I want to make a good life for my wife and my child and who knows, maybe we’ll have more in a few years!”
